In no sense I am diminishing a husband's competence. My opening sentence itself says "inept husband" jokes are even worse. And in no way it refers that all husbands are the same and evade household responsibilities. I am talking specifically about those people who laugh it off - unfortunately they find it funny because there is truth in it and so it resonates. It's talking about that stereotypical behaviour. I have a loving husband who shares equal household responsibilities so I would never generalise an entire gender based on an observation for some men who don't.
