These Few Things I Plan To Do in 2020 to Reach My Full Potential
When I was a toddler, my mum used to tell me I walk like a robot. And that stayed with me for a long time. Because I believed I was programmed by someone and that I couldn’t operate if the code was broken. No doubt I loved Vicky from ‘Small Wonder’. Any 80’s kid in the room?
To give you an example, once in school, I forgot my bottle and came home. The next day I spotted the bottle kept on the top shelf. My teacher pointed out where the bottle was kept. But as I couldn’t climb up and get it, I was clueless and didn’t know what to do. The programming didn’t have the next step to climb up or ask for help. So, I came home crying and told the story to my parents, who helped me get it later. Seems like a ridiculous story now when I recall but when I think about it as a 6-year-old, who didn’t know what is the next step when you can’t do something yourself it was a great deal.
Fast-forwarding to two and half decades later, I thought to re-ignite the robot inside me and up my game in 2020 Without further ado, let’s delve into the details.
Here’s What the New Version Shall Contain
1) A strong valued person
A more grounded, humble and modest human being. Someone who respects all human beings equally. I am this person in my thirties more than I was in my twenties and I believe this graph should keep going up. Version 2.0 is to make visible changes
a) Be fully immersive at that moment.
To improve my listening skills not only to show I care but also to care. Even taking a greater interest in what others say. It isn’t that I don’t do this currently. Still, there are times when I have a lot going on, I zone out and then feel bad about it Also this helps in the office when you are in back to back meetings, you need to switch context so quickly, and it is almost impossible to pay full attention to details each time. Being aware and more conscious would help in such situations.
b) Help others
even if that means I need to get out of my comfort zone sometimes. Intentions alone aren’t enough; you need to back it up with actions. A well-intentioned person with zero actions is of no use to society.
c) Do what matters and not everything.
A good friend once told me — there is learning in anything and everything but do you need to learn everything? We chose our subjects back in school we should decide what we spend time on. We can’t do it all, and we don’t wish to so might as well better spend our mental and physical capacity in things that we value.
2) Well-defined personality traits
a) Invest in physical appearance
I have always struggled to define my fashion sense primarily because I do not have any eccentric preferences and also because I don’t like to stick to one style. The things that I would like to change are investing in a good wardrobe(keeping it minimal though), maintaining those gorgeous curls — curls that I never cared for or respected them in my entire life. I have spent a lot of money and time and effort into straightening those hair locks. But I realised it last year it isn’t sustainable and so I gave up on all heat treatment for a year, and it has done wonders to my hair.
b) Maintain a daily health routine
Just the routine tasks — drink 2 litres of water, take multi-vitamins regularly, wake up early, take enough sunlight and blah blah. Now, I know there are 100 do-good things we learn, and we want to adopt, but we don’t always follow through. The whole point of the upgrade is to take incremental steps and doing one right thing at a time.
1) A fitter person
Take care of physical well-being
Taking good care of my spine and ankle — two constant areas of pain in the last year. Someone fit enough to complete a trek without any stress, someone who is physically able to lift things, run half a marathon like a breeze and work out regularly instead of the gaps that I used to take earlier between the workout regimen. Remembering names and events and just improving the short term memory. Not being a slave to a timetable but doing those few essential dailies to make life better.
2) A mentally active person
Have a balanced mind
Someone who is emotionally strong and knows how to control one’s emotions in the heat of the moment. Someone who gives back in abundance to the society. Doesn’t react instantly. Has a better awareness of mental health. Meditates more frequently and allows empty time to think, reflect and absorb.
Your energy is limited so use it sparingly. Don’t waste on things that won’t yield you any satisfaction.
Something which is lost on most of us this era. Someone who s sorted on most aspects of life — Understand what interests me, what I am truly passionate about or genuinely care for in life. Not being overwhelmed by the sheer multitude of things around me — online content, entertainment options, shopping options, travel options, hobby options and options for almost everything in life. How to use the limited time to achieve the most valuable thing in life — that is what I want to focus on and learn
Everything that I have listed above would make my hardware and to a certain extent, the software strong. Then I need to install a few apps
Apps I would install in this new OS
- Read books more frequently as against reading Twitter or a newspaper or a magazine
- Set goals, work towards them and celebrating once you have achieved them
- Contribute to society, choose a cause that impacts you the most. I am sure there are a million different ways in which we can make this world a better place — Volunteer, donate or anything that helps someone in need
- Do my bid for climate-change — Use less water, recycle waste, create a nursery
- Promote democracy — that is the only way to make common voices like mine heard out loud
- Focus on eating healthy and sustainable way of eating — this one is something that I have been experimenting with for the last three years, and there is a lot that has improved but a lot still to be explored
The only question left now is the time I want to launch this new version. This is where it becomes a little tricky. This version has already been launched in beta version, and I have found out there are a lot of bugs that I need to fix before I can fully release my version 2.0
